Men's Basketball As They Accept The Runner-Up Trophy

New Orleans, LA -- The Philander Smith Men's and Women's basket ball teams participated in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) Tournament in New Orleans this past weekend. The 2017 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference postseason awards were announced Thursday night at the conference's annual pre-tournament awards banquet. Both teams earned individual all-conference honors and Head Men's Coach, Todd Day, was selected as GCAC coach of the year after lead Philander Smith to 2nd place during the regular season.

The Lady Panthers, Terralyn Dominick, was selected as "Freshman of the Year" and "GCAC 1st Team All-Conference." On the Men's side, Daldric Sargent was select to the "GCAC All-Defensive Team." Senior,Chris Ward, was selected "GCAC 1st Team All-Conference."

The Lady Panthers lost to Xavier University in the first round of the GCAC Tournament. The Panther Men defeated Southern University of New Orleans and Talladega College to make it to the GCAC Championship game before falling to Dillard 86-65.

The Men's Basketball team is now waiting for the NAIA rankings in hopes of earning a bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
