Philander Smith Outlasts Talladega for 83–75 Road Victory

November 8, 2025 – Talladega, AL

The Philander Smith Panthers delivered a powerful performance on the road Saturday afternoon, defeating Talladega College 83–75 in a high-energy matchup that showcased balanced offense, rebounding dominance, and a career night from forward Raymond Reece.

First Half: Panthers Take Control Early

Philander Smith set the tone in the opening half with a fast-paced offensive rhythm and aggressive rebounding. Senior forward Raymond Reece was unstoppable, scoring 20 of his game-high 38 points before halftime while controlling the paint on both ends. The Panthers' inside attack and disciplined shot selection propelled them to a 46–39 halftime lead.

Second Half: Reece Dominates, Team Holds Off Rally

Talladega fought back in the second half, cutting the deficit to just three points midway through the period behind the efforts of Jalen Bing-Wallace (16 points) and Tre Simmons (12 points). However, every time the Tornadoes gained momentum, Reece and reserve guard Jaxon Hampton (12 points on 5-of-7 shooting) answered with key buckets.

Philander Smith's composure in the closing minutes proved the difference. Elijah Anderson added 12 points and 5 rebounds, while Kesean Washington chipped in 8 points and 2 assists. The Panthers controlled the glass 38–35 and finished with a solid 48.5% shooting mark from the field.

Player of the Game: Raymond Reece

Reece turned in a dominant double-double — 38 points, 18 rebounds, and a blistering 16-of-22 shooting performance. His presence in the paint anchored the Panthers' offense and stifled Talladega's interior defense all night.
