Panthers Blast Bleu Devils with Brewing Bats

The Philander Smith Panthers were blistering at the plate this past weekend, taking two games at home against the visiting Dillard University Bleu Devils 21-1 and 14-11.  The Panthers now claim a five-game home winning streak.

In game one, Pitcher Owen Branch tossed a masterful complete game, allowing one earned run on three hits and seven strikeouts while facing 31 total batters. It was the second win of the season for the Junior.  Noah Siedenschwarz hit two home runs with five RBIs to lead the Panthers offensively, followed by Tyron Brickhill, who was also responsible for five RBIs on three hits.

In all, the Panthers connected for 17 hits in the onslaught and played error-free baseball throughout the contest.

Philander took a commanding 10-0 lead in their half of the fourth inning by adding five runs during the frame behind the play of freshman Darriel Cole, Chandler Morrow, Elliot Sheppard, Brickhill, and Siedenschwarz.  The Panthers added another 11 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, highlighted by two home runs in the frame by Siedenschwarz.

In game two, the Bleu Devils held a 10-8 lead in the top of the fourth before Philander scored four in the bottom of the inning and two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.  Siedenschwarz again demonstrated his offensive skills by tacking on another two RBI with two hits and scoring runs to lead the Panthers.  Despite committing three errors in the contest, the Panthers were able to hold off the Bleu Devils as Addison Brown, Cole, Sheppard, Brickhill, and Siedenschwarz continue to improve from the offensive side of the plate.

The Panthers will host Champion College on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in a mid-week, non-conference matchup.
