Men Cross Country Comes Out On Top
On November 4,2020 Coach McConnell and the Philander Panthers made school history by becoming Conference Champions and defeating the 12 time defending champs of Xavier University-Louisiana who were Nationally Ranked in the NAIA. After placing top three and runner up at the cross country conference championships for the past three years, the Panthers we able to bring home the Gold in year four. The team consisted of Senior and Team Captain from New Orleans, Louisiana Noel Lyons...Junior from Oakland, California Isaiah Millet.... Junior from Denver Colorado Hassan Elamin.....Sophomore from Arlington, Texas Miles Flood....Freshman from Dallas, Texas Jahsir Williams.....and the 1st place individual winner and Conference Champ Desmond Merritt From Duncanville, Texas. This will be the Panthers third year participating in the NAIA national championships. Coach Chris McConnell was also named the 2020 men's cross country coach of the year, His second coach of the year award (2018 Men's Cross Country Coach of the year)
Due to COVID-19, the NAIA National Cross Country meet has been rescheduled for April 9th, 2021 in Cedar Rapids, IA. As it stands, the Panthers will have numerous runners who will qualify however, we await an official announcement from the NAIA.
